Klook isn’t worried about booking your flight and hotel in Asia, it wants to take care of everything else. The company has over 10,000 options in attractions, tours and other activities in 80 cities across the continent. Klook currently uses WeChat, the mobile social platform and transaction service, in order to promote itself and take bookings. Using WeChat Pay, Klook allows its users to book activities with a few taps.

How they’re disrupting

By working directly with the attraction managers and owners Klook avoids travel agent commission fees, meaning it can offer lower, more appealing prices for its users compared to traditional travel agents. The mobile app (which was named ‘Best of 2015’ by Apple App Store and Google Play) also allows for same-day bookings, as well as instantaneous confirmations.

Disruption potential

Asia is currently experiencing a travel boom, leading in worldwide inbound growth in 2016. Last year Klook was responsible for 5 million trip bookings, and the trend of having authentic travel experiences and activities is still on the rise.

Investments and future

Raised $36.5 million in 3 rounds of funding ($1.5 million in Seed, $5 million in Series A, and $30 million in Series B this March). Klook has partnered with AirAsia BIG, a loyalty program which will allow their customers to earn and redeem points with Klook and other businesses within the industry. Australia, Europe and North America are their next target territories, and they also plan to expand into new verticals.
